Background:
SNF5, one of the core subunits?of the?SWI/SNF?complex,?is?necessary for?efficient?nucleosome?remodeling?by?BRG1?in?vitro.
SMARCB1/BAF47?is an essential?part of the esBAF?(mouse?embryonic?stem?cell?specific?SWI/SNF?complex)?and?is?necessary?for?early embryogenesis and?hepatocyte differentiation.?In addition,?SNF5?is?considered to?be?a?tumor?suppressor?protein;
inactivating?mutations?have?been?indentifiedina?large?number of?malignant?rhabdoid tumors.
SNF5?is widely expressed?in?normal tissues and tumor tissues,?but?is?often?absent?in?malignant?rhabdomyosarcoma?and?epithelioid sarcoma.
SNF5 antibodies?have?been?used?to distinguish?between atypical teratoid/rhabdomyosid tumors?(SNF5?deletion)?and?choroid?plexus carcinoma?(SNF5?positive), and?between epithelioid sarcoma?(SNF5?deletion)?and?epithelioid?hemangioendothelioma??(SNF5?positive).
